Lindsay Barchan
Lindsay stumbled upon the path of yoga, after a long suffering of anxiety as a student. “My very first yoga class, was like coming across the ‘off button to a bubbling kettle”.
Having studied & practised the many physical, mental & spiritual aspects of yoga for a number of years she discovered Iyengar Yoga in 2008 – which is now engrained in her life. “I started dedicating my focus to the Iyengar method, due to the difference in the substance of learning. Iyengar yoga allowed me to experience yoga to a completely different level. It also allowed me to work with injuries safely. At that time, I was living with a double hamstring injury. My Iyengar Yoga teacher worked with me, to slowly build the muscles back to their original state. They also showed me how to prevent the injuries ever happening again.”
In 2010, Lindsay travelled to northern India to study with senior Iyengar yoga teacher Br. Rudra Dev, & returned to continue studying with him in 2012. She also travelled to southern India in both 2016 & 2018 to study directly with the Iyengar family at the birthplace of Iyengar Yoga – RIMYI (the Iyengar Yoga Institute) in Pune. It was her visit in 2016, where she observed the Iyengar family conduct medical classes with students of serious medical conditions, that she witnessed the therapeutic effects of yoga first hand. Witnessing that relief – whilst reflecting on her own past struggles, she decided to pursue teacher training. To teach & share everything inside that she’d accumulated over the years, to benefit others.
Lindsay qualified to teach in 2018, after 2 years of training in London, with one of the UK’s most highly certified senior teachers, Alaric Newcombe. Sallie Sullivan was her examiner, and has actively encouraged us to welcome Lindsay to our team – you couldn’t get a higher accolade than that!
“I’m looking forward to sharing all my knowledge with my new Soulfit students, to give them the gift of yoga, & what it gave me”.
